alternator warning light

Hi Everybody, I have an 1989 3.2 Carrera. It has developed a problem with alternator warning light. This started as an intermittent fault and now seems more permanent. With the engine running the warning light is usually out, but if I turn the indicators on or the reversing light the warning light comes on the rev counter needles drops a little as does some of the other gauges. The indicators do not come on and there was a noise coming from behind the revcounter. I have not as yet tested the with a voltmeter whether the alternator is charging at this time. My question is , is this and alternator problem or should I be looking else where. Thanks for any help with this.

Sounds like the alternator or voltage regulator is failing.

+1.

Get a meter on it soon to "see" what's going on.

Best,

Doyle
