Is paint code 140 9-3 Gold Metallic? Pics?

Hi guys,

I have started to dismantle my lovely '72 911 T Coupé, to get it ready for body work.

The car is Hell Gelb (light yellow) right now, but I can see a flat brown-beige color on the undercarriage. The paint tag reads 140 9-3, but I cant get that to match with my paint scheme for the '72 model year. It says that Gold is 133!?

Gold isn't exactly my favourite color, but maybe some of you have a picture that can change my mind? It feels wrong to keep it yellow when I'm painting the whole car anyway, since it always is most valuable as original.

So, please, any thoughts or pics of a '72 Gold Metallic car would be appreciated....

Thanks,

Johan

Johan, this exact question came up on Early911SRegistry.
The search button is your friend.
Look here

The color is very nice. I have seen one in person. Frank Gallogly, a collector in CT, has one repainted in that color. Here was his ad ...

Ed Cave, a member in ATL, has one that was on the E911SReg calendar as well. Beautiful car. Here it is

Here was a car for sale a while back in gold metallic

Yes, 140 is gold metallic. It did depend on when it was made. Would you share the VIN with me to help document the change please.

Thanks, that was excellent pics! That made it easy to make up my mind. I was afraid 140 was sephia, a color I don't like that much.

These pictures show the same color I found under the light yellow paint.

djpateman, it's nr 9112100356.

I'm still a little afraid 133 and 140 isn't the exact same color.

Thanks,

Johan

Thanks Jim, then I have the same color you have. I don't have a build sheet, but it was delivered to the first owner 11/9/71, so it might be manufactured Sept-Oct 1971.

Based on the pictures I will definately change it to the original paint job. I just have to fix all the rust issues on it first....

Regards,

Johan

Johan, the link that I was referring to, in my original post (when i said "look here") was obscured as I had not pasted it correctly.

140 is correct and it was discussed there on that thread. It appears that 133 was used in 71 perhaps, and it was changed for 72 ...
I would be pretty confident that it is correct. I checked on the glasurit.com site by entering 140 as a porsche color, and 1972 came up ... so you should be fine.

Gold 133 and 140 should be very close in appearance, but the formulation is different.
