FWIW I would think that a crankshaft and rods spinning around, at 6000 rpm, throwing oil everywhere, would have dislodged anything like a shop towel a long time ago. certainly over the last 5 years. my vote is they left a rag or portion thereof plugging an oil connection and missed it on re-assembly.
if the shop won't make good, I say dis-assemble/rebuild it yourself. I recently finished my first rebuild and it's not as scary as it seems. especially as you're starting with a known good engine. leaving anything in there to plug an oil galley is a ticking bomb. |
There is no way that was in your engine for 5 years and is just showing up now.
Someone at the shop screwed up. They need to fix it to your satisfaction, which may involve you retaining an attorney. The problem is, if they "fix" it, how do you know that they won't do something stupid again. It's almost like you have to sue them to get money to take it to a different shop and have it done right. Best of luck to you, sir. --- Tom '75 targa |

I was wondering if you took a small portion of the crud and washed it in detergent, if it might expose the color or help better identify the material? I would think a blue or red shop rag would "show their true colors" when washed.

really really sorry to hear of your plight: unfortunately you're not in a position to deal with an outstanding outfit here in Birmingham Al called Eurasian Auto.....they would have had it taken to pieces and back to you before you knew it....they stood behind their work and do a fantastic job.
