Portable AC for Car?
Can anyone recommend a car portable AC unit/brand that will keep a car cool in 90-plus weather? Searched the site, but couldn't find anything along these lines.
A website link or other resources to research would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help.

The only ones I know of are the old evaporative coolers that hang out the window. Don't know if they're still made.
They would not work as well in a humid climate (VA) as they do in, say the arid Southwest. |

ebay link
This is a unit that a lot of members (Cessna Pilots assoc) seem to like.
if that link doesn't work, it's item 300334232197. |

The "cooler full of ice" units (like the one in the Ebay listing) will only provide the cooling equivalent of 20 to 30 minutes of running a small OEM conventional automotive A/C unit before the ice melts. When full of ice, they weigh ~65 lbs, a significant fraction of the installed weight of a conventional A/C system (~80 lbs on a 911). They are useful for cooling down a plane before takeoff and leaving the unit (full of water) behind on the ground. Less useful for automotive use. Evaporative units are nearly useless in high humidity areas.

I have a cool suit, even have the hooded shirt, but as I have to buy a new helmet for next season i'm looking at an air-cooled version. I could buy a combo water/air cool suit package but was curious as to the suitability of this setup. The cool suit is great but my head gets H-O-T in a 1.5 hour race in 95F heat...
