If it ain't broke, do I dare fix it?
Hey guys (and gals)
Just wondering about something. I've read and heard countless times about updating the valve covers to the Turbo variety. It seems that oil leaks on the originals are usually the reason given. My question is this, Mine don't leak. If it ain't broke, do I risk fixing it? Is there any other advantage in updating the valve covers? Obviously it's a slow news day and I don't have enough to worry about! :D Thanks! :) |
Just change them out the next time you adjust the valves.

If your valve covers don't leak, you probably don't have enough oil in the engine/tank!

FWIW,..I have the original mag covers on my 2.7 and they do not leak. Been on there since 1979,.... :)
If your VC's are not leaking, you don't need to spend any money,.... If, and/or when they do, buy some Turbo ones or aftermarket billet covers. |

You're right, it is a Porsche, afterall! :p Seriously. Don't want to jinx myself. I hate to say it, but I am fortunate as far as leakage goes. :) Now "Shrinkage" -- a'la Costanza in Seinfeld - is another story!!! |
When you replace the valve covers, also install the silicone gaskets our host sells and use new washers and M8 Nylock nuts.

Michael, The point of the post is I'm not leaking now.... but your advice is well received. Should I change them it will be done, as you say, "Right.' Thanks! |
