How do you get wheels to the track?
 

This is what I've been doing. Put down the rear shelf and they fit fine. Don't know if this works for coupes though.

When I put in a roll bar this won't work anymore. Gonna need a new method. Any ideas?

You really have 3 options: 1. You can get one of those trailer that hauls wheels and some stuff. You need to get a custom made hitch for your car. There is something I feel strange about putting a hitch on a 911. 2. You can tow your car. I know, this is a real commitment, but it actually is easy and affordable IF you have a car that can tow. The last two event I went with, I rented a car hauler from U-Haul for $50/day. I use my car with my brother, so we have all our gear plus an extra set of tires. Plenty of room. No miles on your car. If you do tow, you really don't need the extra tires, just leave the track tires on with the car ready to go. Eventually I may buy a trailer, but at this time I don't feel like having one in my backyard all year for the 4-5 weekends I need it. 3. You can have someone (wife) follow you up with the wheels. If she doesn't want to come, then maybe a friend. I have done all three and by far #2 is the easiest.

I think you can still fit 'em inside the car, if you squeeze. 2 on the back shelf/back seats, 1 in the front trunk with the spare removed, and 1 in the front passenger seat! I've done this in my early car -- not sure if you later guys with the extra doo-dads (A/C, power brakes etc) can pull it off.

A word of warning: in the event of a crash (I know, it will never happen to me...) those four wheels will kill you. No two ways about it. Personally, if I was driving any distance I wouldn't want anything that big and heavy unsecured behind me. Even an unsecured child sitting behind your seat will probably kill you in any crash above low speeds (i.e. 30 mph)

This probably won't work for you since you've got fatter tires, but believe it or not, I can put one wheel on the passenger floor, two stacked up in the seat, and the last in the trunk - but this is a '71 911E with 205/50 x 15 wheels. I have a rollbar, too, so the rear seats are out of the question.

I considered getting a roof rack, too. I think I may eventually still do that. Seems like the easiest (and cheapest) route. That obviously won't work for you, though...

I'm trying to keep the passenger seat open so I can take along guests. I can fit one in the trunk (wheels, not guests).

I have been thinking about an open trailer to carry the car. I have a pickemup already so I can tow. Biggest problem is where to store the trailer. Living in San Jose, homes don't have the largest lots. I think I have a place to pull it off, if I can get approval from my boss (girlfriend).

I especially like this since the last time I went to the track, my car broke down. Luckily I was able to get it working, but I was facing the prospect of how to get home if I couldn't fix it. A trailer was sounding like a good investment.

Where do I go to find a used trailer on the cheap?

You can buy a basic car hauler with trailer brakes for around $1500 new. There is a place near Thunderhill in willows that makes and sells them. Of course the fancier trailer you get the more it will cost. But I have been thinking about getting one of the$1500 models for myself, since I don't like the idea of breaking down and not being able to get home.

I'm surprized no one has offered this suggestion, so I will.
Put them on the car BEFORE you drive to the track. One of our PCA members drives his street/track car with slicks on all the time. Driving a 911 in the rain isn't much fun anyway, so why not.

Just have a truck accessories shop weld you up a couple of dually setups for front and back and you will pwn the road!!(in a mad max sort of way of course).
