Oil Level Wiring

Yes I know this gauge is not that reliable but since I've got it I might as well have it working.

Here is the problem; after a 3.0 liter engine upgrade into a 1975 S the gauge never worked. I checked the sender and the wires are missing.

Here is the question; according to the wiring diagram the sender uses a green with white stripe wire. That wire goes to the instrument cluster. Does anyone know where in the engine compartment I can pick up this green/white wire?

Thanks

The wire comes through on the tail light harness in the right rear corner of the engine compartment. Its in the taillight loom if you look to the rear of the tank
It usually has a cloth protector over the wire.

Thanks!

The sender has two connections, one is the green white wire. What color is the second wire?

On my 78SC the gauge is very reliable. It's the reading and interpretation of the gauge that are less reliable. That is, it is correct when a manual reading would be correct.

Second wire is white to ground. White...go figure?

I removed the rear right tail light and see how the green/white wire would go to the oil tank.

Unfortunately, I do not see the green/white wire. I do see a CUT black green wire (which I think belongs to the braking system.)

Is there anyone familiar with a '75 S who knows if there was another color wire which went to oil tank OR if there is another place to pick up the green white wire.

Thanks

UPDATE: There was NO green white wire coming out of the passenger tail light assembly. BUT there was a green white wire going INTO the pigtail.

Upon further examination I realized the original wiring harness from the '75 S did not seem to have the oil level indicator wiring. I checked the harness from my '83 SC tail light and Voila, There it was. I swapped out the old harness for the new one (with the Oil Level wiring) and I'm about to fire it up, hopefully all will work well.

Thanks for all your input
