Rennshift questions
I'm about to install this shifter on my 72 and have a few questions.
Throw-I'm going to keep the stock preconfigured throw at 33. Reverse lockout-Should I keep this set to automatic, and what really does it mean if I choose manual? Spring tension-Should I keep this stock, or should I add shims before the install, what's the general consensus? And, any tips or tricks on installing it, or is it as straight forward as it seems? Thanks |

Use the Auto option... Manual is really for racing cars. Using manual soon becomes tedious. Spring tension-Should I keep this stock, or should I add shims before the install, what's the general consensus? Start with stock and add shims (washers) if needed after final adjustment. And, any tips or tricks on installing it, or is it as straight forward as it seems? It's very straight forward. Read the instructions and you can't go wrong. I installed mine about 3 years ago and I'm very happy with it. When I first installed it I choose the 33% option but switched the 20% after using it for a while. I was tossing up between the WEVO and the Rennshift... At the end of the day the Rennshift was a bit cheaper but boy am I glad I chose it. It has that old school hand made feel that isn't there in the WEVO>>> (I Have used a WEVO) Hope you like your new shifter.... |
The shifter is typically (but not always - if you ordered the extended stick)delivered with the 20% throw (lower hole).
If you are not covering the shifter with a full boot, the manual lockout is more positive. If it becomes tedious, then leave it open for normal cruising, and lock it for the backroads and track work. If you are covering the shifter with a full boot, then you must use the auto lockout. You can change the lockout and the spring tension easily once the shifter is installed, so don't sweat the initial setup. Thanks for using my product!SmileWavy |
SC-thanks for the info, much appreciated.
James- I bought the version with the extended stick as I had a welt for years and I'm done with reaching for the shifter, and I need all the leverage I can get with this tranny. So I guess you are saying that since I have the extended shifter that it's set to 20? I'm using the boot that you provided as I like the look of the shifter, and will mount it above the rs carpet I just installed. Thanks |

Question in regards to the shift bushing that is pressed into the L shaped bracket. I was able to take the old one out (which looks to be original) and replace with a new one. Do I lube this bushing with grease or should this and the shift rod be clean of all grease?
Thanks |

---- Think of it "tromboneing" in and out as you move the stick! |
