Just did this last weekend...
1) Remove 4 bolts holding on air compressor, lift it out of the way. Don't disconnect it. 2) Remove the airconditioner bracket. About 6 screws in all 3) Now you have a clear view of the sender. I think you need a 14mm and 17mm wrench. Undo the cam oil line first. 4) Unscrew the hollow bolt that retains the sender and its mounting block. This came out pretty easy after some penetrating oil... 5) Now comes the hard part. Seperating the mounting block from the sender requires an Act of God. I can't believe how much force it took. The not retaining the oil sender started getting rounded off. I hack sawed the sender from its shaft, and then applied a socket, and about 200lbs of torque and some prayers... it came apart just fine... 6) Putting it back was simple... No need to drop the motor. I could probably do this in 15 minutes the second time around... I know some folks talk about claw foot wrenches, but in my case that wouldn't have worked... It took an AMAZING amount of force... I tried to do this without removing the airconditioner bracket, and it was a no go... wasted 2 hours trying to do it this way. Of note, my car has a very small aftermarket flow through exhaust, so there was lots of space to work... Good luck! I do wish I had mounted Pelicans block with the built in mechanical guage (80$) or so...nice way to double check the dash guage... Oh well.. Good luck! |

Try to tighten up on the slip on connector to the pressure switch. Lots of times it solves the problem
Saves a lot of work too. Bruce |

If the oil pressure sender in your car is anything like my 86 you will first need to take out the AC compressor and mounting bracket to get at it. Once that is done you should be able to disconnect the small oil line attached to the right side and then rotate the sender down and toward the rear of the car. This will allow you to get a open ended wrench on the sender.
The block that the sender is threaded into can be quite delicate, so to avoid breaking it you can first try tapping the end of the wrench with a small sledge or regular hammer. If that doesn't work you can slowly apply increasing force to the wrench until it gives. Don't push with all the force you have at once or the block can snap off leaving you with an additional part to replace. Good luck!
