Sunroof Delete
Has anyone had experience with the simple 911 sunroof delete part like the FRP product sold by Getty Design? It is called a $279 'Sunroof Panel' and is described as lightweight for racing. Could this be used for a street car? What kind of addt'l work and expense could be expected beyond the part cost?

Less brakes, more gas!

No experience w/ the Getty part, but speculating that it is a FG panel that just glues in and you remove all the sunroof mechanicals. This would reduce weight at the worst part of the car.
Metal work from complete clips to filled in sunroof panels have been done. 901 Shop cuts along the rain gutter and re-welds a non-sunroof skin. Looks factory after. Several threads on this board cover the topic. Might find one with the Getty panel used. -Michael

see what i did in sig thread regarding install of the fiberglass unit. problem being with the fiberglass, i can not speak for getty is that it was the exact size as the sunroof panel so there was a lot of room to be made up with the bondo filler where the felt seals would have gone. good maybe for a body man that would float it in for repaint, but not so good for me. This is a temp deal (a few years) until i can get the dough for a NSR skin weld in.
good luck

What about simply welding a piece of metal in the space where the sunroof is? It wouldn't be as light as a fiberglass component, but it would be sturdier, right?

A fiberglass piece would be fine for weight reduction as long as you don't try to hide it with filler in the hope it will look like a non-sunroof car; it would surely crack and look awful. Metal is the way to go but must be done expertly.
