Fan housing cracks
I have searched the fan housing threads and it seems there is still no cheap fix for this.
Have the ones that had theirs welded held up well? Thanks

I know it's sacriligious, but consider a ******. I've been really happy with mine.
But first post pics of your cracks and let the experts have an opinion.

Last couple I paid attention to including the 3.2 build im doing now, looks like there is too much tightness on the fan belt with the top reinforcement cracked.
Well, we can put some dope on the one and there is still 3 left to support the alternator... Bruce |

Along these lines.....
There is a slight rubbed place on the inside bottom of my fan housing. I suspected that I may need to replace the unit, but before I did that I painted over the scrape with some touch up paint with the thought that the scrape could have been an old wound that the PO had addressed some way. I have since driven the car spiritedly and the touch up paint has not been rubbed off the housing. Does this mean the housing is ok because the fan isn't hitting it and rubbing the paint away? I hope so. But I'm not sure and that worries me. |

Here are the pictures. The cracks don't look as bad today as I thought they were yesterday.

I fixed a few like that with JB Weld.
You'll need to use a Pencil Grinder like a Dremel. Use a small bit with a rounded front tip. Carefully grind into and along the crack to clean out and expose new metal. Apply JB Weld per instructions and let dry. Don't overtighten the housing strap and fan belt tension. If you're concerned about the belt slipping, apply a little belt dressing. ![]()
