distributor rotor question

what piece is the "front" of the rotor on an early Bosch distributor (008)? Is it the black metal tip sticking up? what am I supposed to be pointing at #1?

Static Time

The picture above is static timed at #1 firing position... That notch might be aligned around the clock in some other configuration, but it will always be just right of one of the cap clamps.. That is a rev limiting rotor, Check the bottom side of it for the rev at which it cuts out the ignition. The slide tab moves out and ground against the tab at about 6 oclock in the picture to kill the ignition..

Related question... will a 70 - 73 S rotor fit a 74-77 dist? I want the 7300 rpm redline instead of 6500 rpm now that my engine is broken in.

Does it run now when you put the Marelli back in or is it totally dead?

Is the distributor 180 degrees off? It's easy to do.

Going to try the Marelli tonight.

Tried rotating the Bosch 180 degrees without luck.
