Latch adjustment-engin lid

Can anyone tell direct me to the "recommended " adjustment procedure for aligning the striker/receiver assembly? I tried peeping (lid almost closed) @ sides and rear. Looks centered but when i tighten up bolts it is off. Finally detached striker plate set it in receiver and added adhesive--closed lid-- let it dry--pulled t handle and bolted while glue held. Still not quite right.. Looks as though it needs shims on the bottom side to get striker at right angles to receiver. Maybe that is why some of these look like they were bent (with a hammer) to get alignment. Any thoughts?

Engine lid latch adjustment.........

The easiest way I have found to adjust the engine lid latch is to cover the hole with a wide piece of duct tape and then gently lower the lid until the pin makes a small indention in the tape. Looking at the indention, you should be able to tell if the pin is centered. If not, back off on the retaining bolts, adjust and try again. The pin probably doesn't have to perfectly centered, but the closer the better.

Good luck on your project!

Remove the spring loaded striker bolt in the lid completely.
First set the lid to fit the body-opening squarely by the hinges. (The hinges have slots for the bolts holding them)
Adding or subtracting flat washers will get the correct height to be flush with the body on top.
Manipulate the 2 rubber stops to get the bottom flush.

Now re-install the big striker bolt. It can be adjusted up or down and sideways.
To center it on the receiver, put masking tape over the opening. A dab of grease on the tip of the striker bolt and gently closing the lid just enough to see the grease on the masking tape.
Adjust the big bolt according to the grease mark.

Careful with adjustments so you don't end up not being able to open the lid.
