I did it. You need a wiring diagram for your year, available here.

I currently (unintentionally) have a push-button starter in my car. My ignition switch recently failed for a second time in that the tumbler isn't making the contact in the final position to engage the starter motor. So I pulled the piece off the back of the ignition switch, found which two pins engage the starter (by trial and error - make sure the car is in neutral!) and ran 2 wires out of it, into a generic normally-open push-button switch. Found it at Canadian Tire for about $5 - they had all sorts of different ones. It works absolutely perfectly, in fact so well that I won't bother fixing the ignition switch until the car goes away for the winter.
You can wire everything through the back of the ignition switch with just a little trial and error. The hard part will be fabricating and installing a panel with the correct switches that looks nice. |
thanks for the info. anyone else have ay pics or diagrams of their ignition switch delete?
