Valve Cover Gaskets

Hello -

Is it absolutely necessary to replace the valve cover gaskets and hardware if the covers are on a brand new engine rebuild with less that 10 miles on the engine? I did my initial start up over the weekend for 20 minutes, then oil change. Everything went well , and as expected. Then I started it again, set the timing, and drove around my neighborhood for about 5 miles.

Everything felt fine, and after a another hour or so I drove it another 5 miles when I started hearing very load noises coming from the driver side exhaust valve train. During both drives I never exceeded 4K RPM and I was varying the RPM range as often as possible. I'd like to take the covers off and look around. If I do this should I replace the gasket and hardware or can I bolt it back up as is? Thanks in advance for your help.

Just open it up and if you dont destroy the gasket, you won
As for the nuts and bolts, theyre still new.

Try it. If they leak, you know the fix It's probably the bottom ones that will give you trouble. I've had the same uppers for a long time... years and years and years. I replaced the bottoms a month back and it fixed a pesky oil leak.
