Seats from a 914 in an early 911
Would these be 'correct'...or at least 'appropriate'...for an early 911?
They're apparently Recaros from a 914-6? Obviously need refinishing. Are they worth much, meaning collectible or rare in any sense? ![]()

Those are just plain old worn out 914 seats, thousands of them around just like that, worth almost nothing.
Those would not be "correct" in any way for an early 911. Other than maybe as a joke. |

These can be recovered deleting the headrest and increasing the size of the side bolsters to generate a very nice seat resembling the early fixed back racing buckets without the cost.

Here's what seller wrote to me when I asked...'something special about these seats? They look like standard 914 seats.'
According to a couple of web sites I went to before I listed these there is a seat that was only used in a 914-6 GT and 911 that was called a Recaro Ergo.It was used in the last years of the 914 say '78-9. During that same time they were in 911s. These have the adjustment rail and handle still on them. The floor rails were supposed to be like a VW on the floor welded. These just slid on. ![]() Well, I wasn't sure if these were comparable to early recaro sport seats (the ridiculously priced types), so I thought I'd ask.

The seats in your picture are just plain jane 914 seats. They are not the seats used in the 914-6 GT, or in any 911. They are not made by Recaro. Those seats are worth maybe $100. $200 tops if you got lucky. There were just so many of them made, they are everywhere, esp. in "core" condition. |

Putting them, in stock configuration, into a 911 would look horrible. The modified ones in the pictures above look ok, except to people familiar with 914s. To me, they just look like chopped down 914 seats. They are not comfortable seats at all, with no springing in them (just some foam on fiberglass). As you point out, they also offer no support at all - it is the equivalent of a bench seat. On the upside, they are ultra-light. And inexpensive, and as far as non-original seats in a 911, not the worst looking solution out there. |
