Anyone own a Porsche with the PDK tranny?

Just wondered what it would be like living with this in a current Porsche.

I've heard the controls are counterintuitive, and get frustrating after a while. I have also heard they will be replaced with proper F-1 style paddles before too long.

Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has spent some time with the current PDK set-up.

Don't own one but I've driven an 09 Carrera with one several times. Pretty cool tranny - for a water cooler..

I just instructed a drvier at Autocross with a PDK. It seems to be ok and with the Sport Crono option seems to be programmed well.

I have a 2001 Boxster with Tiptronic. I recently test drove a 2009 Boxster with the PDK, and found the "paddles" VERY much to my liking - you pull towards you to downshift, and push away with the ball of your thumb to upshift.

Although the F1-style "upshift on one side and downshift on the other" works well in a race car, on a street car you can often end up with your steering wheel upside down - in this situation, it makes more sense to have up and down shifting on both 9 and 3.

Many people complained about the buttons in the Tip, but after years of ownership of this car as well as other cars with paddle-shift transmissions (Lexus IS300, BMW 330i) I've found the Porsche system to be very intuitive and the buttons well-placed. IMHO, the PDK "paddles" are the first real improvement I've driven.

regards,
Ayan

I've driven them and found that they upshift too agressively (early) and I found the buttons to be irritating. They seem to operate in a different plane than what your thumbs are in, with your hands on the wheel.
