My wife and I are going to Cambria this weekend. Our first long trip in the Porsche. Too bad we didn't have the car back in time for the rgruppe gathering. We had hoped to take this trip last year, but just got the 911e out of the paint shop a couple weeks ago after 16 months.
I've gone through some of the vulnerable areas (clutch cable, oil tubes etc..) of the car to prepare for this relatively long trip. The car hasn't missed a beat as I have been exercising it these last couple weeks. I am wondering if anybody has any recommendations on wrenches/friends in the area that I could contact in the event of a breakdown. We are traveling from the Riverside area and will be going through the North LA area en route. We will be heading north on Saturday so this may limit the amount of shops that are open, but will come home during the week. I've got the AAA+ card but will be more than 100 miles from anyplace I am familiar with. I must sound pretty negative, but it is a 32 year old car that has done a lot of sitting the last decade. I hope that by being prepared, I will be less likely to be stranded. Thanks for any leads. Ron 1969 911E |

Since you have no other info, I have done business with German Auto Repair in SLO. They do VW, BMW, Porsche....not a strong recommendation though as my experience was VW!.. Did the rgruppe in my old '67 911 from northern CA. Purred all the way there, but must admit I had the same feelings as you as this was my longest trip since going through the car. Did hear a few stories of broken down cars, but in most cases between the phone book and the tow driver they figured something out. Have a good trip!

Stay at the Sand Pebbles Inn. If you bring a shut off nozzle, don't waste water, they'll let you wash your car. Friends staying in another place said car washing was verboten. You must love being tourist trapped. That was my impression of the town of Cambria itself. If it weren't for the R Gruppe thing, I wouldn't have bothered. But, I may be jaded, living 60 miles from the Oregon coast with it's own tourist trap towns...Bring a Gas card. Chevron 92 octane was $2.34 per gal. in Cambria, a month ago. Probably higher now.
