Lorne,

Same thing. They are both threaded inserts for the block - typically used on the mid-year magnesium blocks. What you want to know the difference between is Time-Sert and Heli-coils. Time-Sert is a solid bushing insert, where a heli-coil is a coil of wire that is threaded in to repair a stripped thread. The Time-Sert is much stronger. All can be thought of as case savers.

Rex

Thanks I have used Heli-coil for year b and have several Temesert sets but when I looked uo case savers in Pelican it showed awhat looked to be Timesert.

I have heard people say that they used case savers on their engines and just wanted to be sure that what I was using was the best that I could use.

Thanks again For the info.

Lorne M.

Case savers basically have more bite. They are a bit larger than timecerts. Most builders recommend casesavers over timecerts.

TimeSerts have finer threads than CaseSavers so they don't hold as well.

Time Cert on the left.

CaseSaver on the right.

I stand corrected - there is a difference between case savers and time certs.

timeserts are rather soft, because to finish the installation, a thread finishing tool is run down inside, which expands the insert and locks it in place. the inside threads are "timed" to the outer ones. a cross-section would be zig zag. the case saver is a steel sleeve. thicker, stronger, coarser thread. more bite. inner and outer threads could be fine and coarse, respectively, unlike a timesert. generally loctited in, and no further finishing needed.
