Body Reassembly Sequence

I am reassembling my 84 911 after a glass out fender off repaint.

I am wondering where to start with the major body components as there is little reference for aligning the parts in the front end as all of the panels were removed. I am thinking start with the doors and then work forward to to the fenders then hood then bumper.

Does this make sense or is the a better sequence ?

Most restorers start with stationary parts then move to the moving ones. Thus, Fenders first. Trim is always last. Never attach trim until panels and doors etc. are adjusted or you risk screwing it up with a scratch or dent while working.

My concern with starting at the fenders, there is little to line up to. The only part is the narrow section by the windshield.

I thought that if the door was fit first then the fender, it would be much easier to align the fender. The door has a long seam along the body to set the gap for.

I agree with the trim statement.

But I think that most people first hang the doors, lining them up with the rear fenders and rockers, followed by the front fenders. I think that the front fenders are generally left to the last, as they have the most room for adjustment.

Good luck, Ron

porsche and most restorers work from the quarter panels forward. so: doors, fenders, and then hood. installing the fenders before the doors would make the job more difficult. align the door edge to the quarter panels and get the latch to work right and the window frame aligned. the fender really only aligns to the door edge and the hood, hopefully you have a vague idea of how many shims were used for the fenders. the last panel is the most difficult.

I guess in my case then my sequence will go:

1. rockers
2. doors ( I have to assemble the window frame as well
3. fenders
4. hood
5. bumper

Thanks.

maybe rockers should be moved to #5 or #6. the rest looks logical. post some pics! ;)
