clunking
Looking for help. I seem to be getting a clunk/clunk from the Fan/alternator area when, for example I check for fan belt tension. I don't seem to hear anything under acceleration, only when checking tension or at idle it seems to be a bit noisy but not clunking. Would alternator bearing or fan bearing be a logical guess? Or something else entirely? There are no other 911's in the immediate area to get an idea how quiet or not an idling 911 should be.

possibly a bearing, but it's hard to tell from the symptoms you describe. How much or how little deflection do you currently have in your fan belt? If it is less than 1/4"-1/2", your belt may be too tight and causing a strain. Removing the fan belt is simple. Check to make sure you have all 6 shims on your fan shaft. If you don't have 6, you should. If you have all 6, play around with the sequence until your fan belt has the proper tension. This may solve your problem.

unclunked (or declunked)
Pretty simple fix, as PO had 8 washers instead of 6. Now have 5 inside 1 outside and no more noise. Tried 6 inside but that was abit loose, and 5 and 1 is maybe a bit tight, but will wait awhile and check again, thanks
