How can I measure my oil temp, besides using the gauge?

Can anybody tell me what the method is for accurately measuring my oil temperature, besides looking at the gauge? I just want to make sure my gauge is calibrated correctly.

Thanks.

You'd have to install a probe and gauge to read it somewhere convenient...

Might not be a bad idea to have a permanently installed probe deep in the oil tank.
When I bought my car the tail light lens behind the oil tank was damaged by heat.
It was distorted and "sagging"...

The car had been running very hot at some point and the PO didn't bother to replace that lens before he sold it...

Call me paranoid but the thought of have a second probe in the tank and dash gauge sounds like a good idea to me.

If you just want to check it, get a good cooking probe and run it into the tank. Just make sure anything you use is not touching metal, it will read high then.
