rear defrost switch lighting problem
I am assuming that the rear defrost and fog light switches are supposed to be lit when the lights are on and then brighter when actually in use, correct? That is how my fog switch works but the defrost is not operating properly if that is the case. The light is constantly on in the bright mode (as if turned on) and the only way to turn it off is to rotate the switch to the left so that it is never on.
Anyone experienced this problem? I tried searching and found lots of related topics but none that reported this particular problem. |
hey, me too.. I just posted about the front defrost, too..
but I thought the rear knob should be lit up, mine is never lit. in any position. It pulls out two clicks, but the rear window defroster doesn't defrost either. just dead? or what? |
Add me to the list, none of my switches are lit unless i pull them out to activate whatever function they control. Plus the rear defroster doesn't work at all.

Dumb luck strikes again... While sitting at a light I decided to play with the rear defrost a bit. It turns out that my switch had been loose and would spin freely both directions. I tightened it all the way to the right and everything is working as it should be again.
In my searches for possibly solutions I read several posts that talk about the multiple stages of this switch (one pull out for defrost, 2 clicks out for super defrost, rotate to the right for heated mirrors). My switch will pull out but only one click. It does however rotate one click to the right. I am assuming this means I have heated mirrors but not the upgraded rear defrost setting. Does that seem weird to anyone? All the posts I found said that the second pull out (super defrost) was standard but the heated mirrors were an option. |
Can you post a pic of your switch for reference? I had the same question -- from what I read the early rubber covered switches only light up when they're on (out.) The later switches have 2 levels of illumination for off/on.

here are a pair of crappy night shots with my cell, but it shows the difference in light power.
lights on, both switches fully pushed in (normal, nothing turned on) http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../iphone183.jpg lights on, defrost pulled out one click http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3.../iphone184.jpg |
And those switches are these? Mine must be broken, good to know.
