caliper ID and upgrade
 

I was wondering how to identify what type of stock calipers came with my 1975 S US spec 911.

l would like to replace these calipers with a set from a 1983 SC.

Is this a straight swap? Any mods needed to the brake system?

Actually, they are the same setup. You would need to upgrade to a 84-89 setup to see any difference. IMO, the difference would be small.

What's wrong with your current setup? Unless you are tracking the car, the stock system, when working properly, is more than adequate.

stock US '75 S came w/ m calipers all around, over the years the fronts may have been changed so first visually id that the front and rear calipers at least look the same

If the stock Ms are still on the front then to use the later '83 A calipers you will also need later struts w/ 3.5" caliper mounting ears. The ones form an '83 would workfine.

as long as you are doing that, I'd recommend Bilstein struts w/ 3.5" ears and w/ hd inserts.

as an additional upgrade use '84 -89 wide A calipers and rotors, they are 4mm thicket that the '83s

No other mods to the brakes are needed.

Thanks for the replies. Definately not tracking this garage queen. The '75 sat in a garage for 18 years and I'm merely concerned about safety.

I replaced the original flexible brake lines with steel braided ones bought here. (GREAT service Wayne, thanks for the Jelly Beans :)) and know the '83 calipers would be in better overall shape you know seal wise. (I recovered them from my '83 -RIP)
