where can i find these seals? part number?
This is my 1982 911 sc, the smart body shop painted over these seals, i need replacement ones anyone know the part number so I can get some new ones?They are between the front fenders and the bottom corners of the windsheild. much appreciated thanks

Go to #10. Only a few bucks each. Have fun. (I have a friend that masked them off and painted the exposed edge of the seals semi-gloss black over the new paint.). |
There are 2 allen bolts that you will need to loosen to remove that seal. They are accessed via the gap between door and fender when the door is fully open. I used a ball end allen socket with a swivel joint to make the contortion necessary to remove the bolts. You do NOT need to remove them, only loosen them. They are a pain to reinstall. You may need to loosen one or two of the screw along the fender hood joint from the front trunk. The attached photo of my 82SC shows what was under the drivers side fender on my car for your reference.

I'm finding it difficult to understand why they painted over this seal. :confused:
How hard is it to mask over it or temporarily remove it for painting? You could remove them and clean them up with a razor blade and some thinners but I would imagine it would be very difficult to get them clean. (I'm assuming they used 2pak paint) I'm always surprised by the things left behind by "professionals"... |

That is a sign of a Cheap Paintjob.If you're carefull you should be able to fix-it.Maybe pre-cut some paint along the seal,carefully pull away the fender.You dont want the paint pulling off,making it all worse.Take your time,and it should turn out fine.

they didn't remove the hood and fenders or the windshield befor painting, how much did you pay for that?

I 2nd loosening the fender up to get the seal out.
Also, just FYI you need the seal that is 4.3mm. (The 901 PN). The wider seal was used on later cars. You could also try removing yours and soaking them in some brake fluid to remove the paint. Soaking rubber parts in brake fluid can (sort of) revitalize them. I have done this on a few occasions with un-obtanium rubber parts I needed to re-use. Make sure to wash them thuroughly with soapy water before reinstallation though! My .02, Cooper |

I know I'm going to sound like a jerk....but it took me 6 or 7 clicks in 20 seconds on the "New Parts Catalog" tab above to find this part. My guess is it took you a lot longer to photograph, edit the pic and post a thread.
Take 30 minutes sometime to peruse the catalog here....it comes in handy for research. |
Barndoor makes a good point... You might be stepping from the frying pan into the fire at this point trying to remove the old gaskets. It appears from the pictures that there is a build up of paint. Depending on what the rest of the paint job looks like, you might leave "well enough alone".

I've seen your car pixs posted previously. The after market additions look like they were carefully installed and the color really works with your car. Tastefully done...
