Forums Speed and Errors...

How is it these days? I think I fixed all of the problems I had over the weekend, and actually this new configuration seems much faster than before!

Pls let me know.

-Wayne

Geronimo '74 09-23-2009 10:47 AM

Seems about the same.
I'm Europe, my laptop isn't hyperfast, don't know if that matters, I guess it does.

Mycar 09-23-2009 10:50 AM

Much better for me and I`m in the UK.. :)

Mike.

kycarguy 935 09-23-2009 02:44 PM

On my end it seems much faster then before. Thanks for your continued hard work.

Porsche-O-Phile 09-23-2009 04:26 PM

Seems a bit quicker. Certainly quicker than when it was "in the pits" this past weekend. It's got to be a pain to keep these things going all the time - thanks for that!

jimho 09-23-2009 04:29 PM

Better, reasonably fast, but not super fast...

pete3799 09-23-2009 07:04 PM

I vote 911 with a cat bypass.
Not super fast but much better.
Thanks for your attention to this.

jimho 09-23-2009 07:32 PM

BTW - I ordered some parts yesterday and noticed (or thought I noticed) the ordering system/shopping cart was quicker and somehow more responsive than it was about a month ago.... - not sure if you tweaked that too
I'll vote for a 911 stock with an SW Chip.

Echo on the thanks

john walker's workshop 09-24-2009 04:27 AM

seems decent enough. on both home and work puters, the space to the left of the list of threads does not contract as usual. there are red squares with X that say porsche crest, and little flat rainbows.

tharbert 09-24-2009 06:15 AM

I voted in the minority. Over the past 4-5 months, I've had discernible and sometimes very annoying lags in page loads...even just text based (no photos) pages. Other times, it's fine as frog hair. Looking at the graph above, my guess is the problem isn't because of your servers. It's probably DNS or some other bottleneck. I wouldn't have mentioned it but I have the same lag both at work across a T1 and home across DSL.

Patrice911 09-24-2009 09:54 AM

Probably not related to your upgrade but I cannot see any pictures in a tread anymore when at work. If I copy the link of the images and try to open it up I received the following....

You cannot access the following Web address:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads15/RL+H+R1253581800.jpg

The site you requested is blocked under the following categories: Provocative Attire

rouxroux 09-24-2009 11:57 AM

There was a feature that used to be there that is gone now. I used to scroll over the topic with the cursor and the opening phrase would display (kept me from clicking on a few) sort of like a "preview"...Is that gone for good?

EDIT: Never mind....it's back!!!!!!!!!!

bluesky 09-24-2009 01:28 PM

I've noticed during the past few days that the smilies aren't working but only show as red x's.

jcge 09-24-2009 01:34 PM

Wayne

I can no longer see images (pics) hosted on Pelicans servers ...only red X image placeholders

Example on the last page of the 935 favourite photo's thread......those hosted on Image Shack and elsewhere download...those on Pelican do not.

Hope this info is of some use

Wayne 962 09-24-2009 02:56 PM

I'd be willing to bet you are using an old bookmark or an invalid thread. Does your URL start with something like http://66.236.61.177/

?

Here's what it looks like for me:

Wayne 962 09-24-2009 03:00 PM

When you right-click on the image and select "properties", what does it say for the image URL?

-Wayne

jcge 09-24-2009 03:21 PM

Wayne

Image URL from properties is http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads15/screenshot211253833194.jpg (from your example post #16)..but just a red X box on my screen - first occurance was yesterday morning...(your p.m.)

As per Patrice's post #11 above....following the URL gives a block under "provocative attire"

Maybe your "/uploads15/" directory has been blacklisted by McAffee or other filter providers (I can see images in another post from "/uploads5/" directory)

I'm browsing from a work / corporate site

John

Patrice911 09-25-2009 06:56 AM

Your company is probably using the same filter than my company is using: Smartfilter.
Somehow pictures from Pelican got black-flag.
I check older tread and I can see pictures up to " uploads7... " 8 and up don't show up.
Anything also like: YouTube, Photobucket and similar sites are block.
At least we can still access the forum, for now.....

At home no problem at all.

Wayne 962 09-25-2009 09:59 AM

It seems as if McAfee's software has flagged the images directory of the site. I have sent them a note asking for the images folder to be removed.

Thanks Wayne...much appreciated

This has little bearing on the problems above but it fixed my speed issue. I updated my DNS settings to use the servers suggested at DNSServerList.org. Pelican loads like a champ now.

Wayne 962 09-27-2009 03:57 PM

Cool, glad to hear it. Since the problems last weekend, the forums have been running very well! (knock on wood).

Wayne..

Some more feedback on upgrade/changes..

Seems as though from my computer at work, the space to the left of the list of threads does not show the envelopes as usual, there are also white boxes with a red X rather than "the Porsche crest, thumbs-up, etc.. Smilies etc also appear as white boxes with red X in center. No problem with this from home computer.

Also, used to scroll over the thread topic with the cursor and the opening phrase would display (kept me from clicking on a few) sort of like a "preview"... This only works now if logged on. Experience this from both computers... Hope this isn't permanent

Thx

No Compliants Here...

Wayne,

All is well here, everything is purrrrrfect....

dw1 10-01-2009 11:26 AM

About the same, with loading speeds and search speeds somewhat dependent on the time of day.

But then, I'm on the other side of the country, and my ISP may have some issues with high traffic periods.

(Like just maybe they are trying to get their customers to upgrade to their higher speed & higher-cost service option).
