PPI: Caveat Emptor
Interesting post in SCM about what appears to be a perfectly normal PPI on a car, known to the inspector, that has gone off into the wonderful world of Sue, Grabbitt & Runne. Or is it Duey, Cheatem & Howe? I hope this doesn't have an effect on PPIs we may need for our cars.

great article!
Chris - that's a great read and a sad commentary on the litigous nature of some people, and the state of the market. I think clearly the object of the demand letter was to find out if "somebody had insurance" and then try to get a settlement...
No wonder ferrari dealers won't do PPIs. thanks again Mark Petry Bainbridge Island, WA |

I think the bottom line needs to be that if you have enough money to buy it, you need to have enough money to fix it. Getting the lawyers involved is fruitless except for them.
PPI are not perfect. They don't show all abuses. |

"My goal was to head this off at the pass, before it got expensive for both sides… as the only winners will be the attorneys . . .By the way, virtually no authorized Ferrari dealers will perform pre-purchase inspections any longer. Blame the lawyers."
Well summarized. Obviously, your opinion will vary, but the term "cautionary tale" certainly applies.

Interesting - litigation follows money. I doubt that we will see these types of stories associated with $15 - 20k SC's and Carreras, because there's isn't enough honey to attract many bees. Ferrari values make them bigger targets, and their dealers have probably exited the PPI business is because they have seen this before.
It is unfortunate, but part of the life in America. Quite frankly, if I were doing PPI's, I would have the document state in bold that my liability was equal to PPI cost. I'm not an attorney, but think it would resolve at least some issues like this.

I've got to wonder how the article writer had the car through at least three owner iterations (I lost count) and didn't notice the patch on the block where the rod theoretically broke through. Seems pretty fishy to me.
It also speaks to how the exotic car dealer guys go about extracting large sums of money from the wealthy; you know, those gentlemen with more cash than brains.
