1970 911 Aftermarket Airconditoning

I have a 1970 911t with aftermarket a/c by Coolaire. I have removed all the a/c components but still find I need to keep a relay in the starter circuit. If I remove the relay the starter will not engage. I have been told by a local service dealer that it is called an "unloading relay". I would like to get rid of the relay for reliability reasons. What do I have to do?
Thanx,
Al

Thanks

The relay has a hot wire that must feed the starter circuit. Why do you want to remove it ? Also, make sure that the car is in neutral when attempting to overcome this relay, in case it actually shuttles a live hot to the starter solenoid. My guess is that it takes power from one big hot wire, and shuttles it between the AC and the starter. Look for a hot wire and and a switched hot wire from the ignition starter circuit. then you should have a feed wire to the starter, and a feed wire to the AC, plus a ground.

Of course I am making all this up in my head, but I would start there, with a tester, the ignition on, car in neutral, in case you succeed in jumping the starter.

But if it ain't broke...

If you play with the wires, make sure the car is in neutral, in case you succeed in jumping the starter.

I would be guessing, but I think the relay is shuttling power from a hot switched wire between the starter and the AC. It may just be disconnecting the AC power and just shuttling the starter circuit power at the same time. Look for switched power from the ignition, switched power from the starter circuit, a starter feed, an AC feed, and a ground. If you take the switched power from the starter circuit, and connect it to the starter feed, you should be able to get rid of the rest.

Of course I am making this all up in my head, but you need a simple tester, and you need to identify the starter wires, with the car in neutral.

But if it ain't broke...
