airbox - oem or stainless?
what are the strengths and weaknesses of each? mine needs replacement and i never even knew about the stainless option until recently. are there any advantages that stainless has over the oem?

other than they are butt ugly ?
 i just did mine and liked the originallity of OEM, some say a stainless is stronger .. which it is .. if it has a serious backfire ... but i just think the force will show somewhere else like damaging your plate, or tear the sleeves. I don't have a pop off valve ..but trying to put one in a SS box might be a bit of a challange.

Wouldn't the SS box retain higher heat levels for a longer period of time, and result in warmer air being taken in?
I'm just asking, cuz that's what seems like would happen in my mind. I have the OEM, but always open to options that are better.

Stainless Air Box
I recently debated getting one of the stainless ones when the air box blew on my 83 SC but ended up getting one of the after market aluminum ones. I feel the stock plastic boxes are a serious weak point in the design of the SC and they definitely have a limited life span-25 years years in that hot engine compartment will take its toll. What will happen to the SC's when the replacement stock boxes are NLA? The stainless one will last forever and has a built in relief valve. I'd be curious to know how well they work.
I spoke with Alec Webb who is making the stainless ones again and probably would have sprung for one if I didn't get the aluminum one first. Following is a copy of an email he sent me with contact info if interested. Hi Sean Webb’s Machine Design has re-acquired the manufacturing of the Stainless Steel 911 Air Box. We are the original designers and manufactures of the Air Box. I am in the process of setting up and getting organized. Let me know if you are still interested. If so, send me you year and model of you 911. The unit price will be $750.00 + shipping. If you need more info on the unit let me know.
