My Brother and I are thinking of taking my Dad on a trip he has always dreamed about: Driving the finest roads through Italy, Austria, Sweden Germany, etc. in 3 911's.....
I am hoping we can find a rental company that doesn't charge an arm and leg to do this. I have looked at a few companies and they want $4000.00+ for 4-5 days with 1 Boxter or 911S..... Any ideas???

there are alot places where you can get porsches cheaper than that...
Fahrzeuge Cabrio Porsche: Porsche 997 - 4S Cabrio mit WLS 381 PS,Sport- mieten und vermieten auf Miet24.de a week below 2000$ incl. 1200km, should give you some fun in the alps. or check the porsche zentrum directly they as well rent cars. e.g. Porsche Zentrum Dortmund*»*Porsche Service*»*Mietwagen Angebot 199€ a day incl. 200 km --------------- Dirk 78SC |

Please note that many (most?) rental companies that would rent you a Porsche will not allow you to take it out of the country you rent it in.

What I can tell you is, you need much more time than 4-5 days, if you really want to drive from Italy to Sweden.
I am from Switzerland, in the heart of Europe (Beautiful mountains and roads here) and you need at least two days only to pass Switzerland if you want to drive the mountains. To get an idea: Some friends and me ride once a year with the motorcycle from Zürich to Nizza (Nice in English). We get really fast, all race bikers, we need 3 days for. And believe me, you won't be that fast with a car ![]() So my recommendation: Choose between Scandinavia or central Europe, they too far away from each other. Also, you've got more variety from north to south or converse, than go east to west. It looks not far, but remember, in the Alps, there are several passes with over 2500m over sea, so it takes time to go ahead. Then attend to the season, Most of the passes are snowy in the wintertime and many are closed through this time, depends on the snow. Some are open, but requires chains and good driving ![]()

Bah, you can do it in 4-5 days. I have for the past 2 years.
Also, I have a friend over there who is starting a business for just what you are asking about. PM me if you want me to check what he may have at this point. |

From Stuttgart to northern Italy via Austria. Thie year we hit the museum in Gmund, Passo Rombo, Passo Stelvio, Passo Gavia, Basano de Grappa... I think we cover about 2000 km, mostly passes, in 4 days.
I have about 800 pictures, here are just a few. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by bart1; 10-06-2009 at 06:39 AM.. Reason: Clarify |

BTW, my trip is organized yearly by a friend in Stuttgart. Just a few cars, so it is easier to keep everyone together.

Nice trip
![]() I see you visited Neuschwahnenstein and one pass looks like Grossglockner between Austria and Italy... Stilfserjoch (or Stelvio) at the Swiss border is about 3 hours away from me, depends on speed ![]() But to be fair, you have to tell, that from Stuttgart to the Austrian border you've had very little speed limits on the German Autobahn, so it's easy to get some Kilometers. Are you really sure about 2000km? From Stuttgart it's about 250km to Füssen, another 200km and youre already in the middle of the Italian Alps... And still only a quarter of the distance you estimated. Anyway, a very nice trip I can only agree it's worth every km ![]()

Uhhh, we don't exactly go in a straight line, thus accounting for the extra KMs. Try to stay off the autobahn/autostrada unles we need to make up some time. Last year was definitely 2000km in 4 days. I think we did cover a few less this year, but close.
I'll be back next year unless something happens! ![]() Hope you fellas don't mind lotsa pics... ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Stockholm to the alps is just transportation if you aint planning some laps on the "Ring".
Concentrate on Bavaria and northern Italy. Our best time in the late 80's Gothenbourg (SWE) - Benidorm ( ESP) 22,5 hours in a Lotus Omega.
