Can you fit 17x9 16mm on the fronts?

Im trying to achieve a Jack Olsen-ish look (hi jack). I have a 77 911 widebody non turbo with flared fenders. Im wondering if I can fit the 17x9 with 16mm offset in the fronts safely without any rubbage? later I plan on hunting for deep rears. What do you think? - If I'm on the wrong track please tell me the wheel size and offset I should be searching for. Thanks!
-Baker.

The look I want:

Yes it can be done fairly easily. I've done it myself. That's about the perfect offset for your fitment.

255/40/17 is the tire size I ran up front with no problems. I did remove the evap canister and windshield washer tank in the left fender to prevent rubbing (though I'm not 100% sure this is necessary). 235/40/17 and 225/45/17 are other easy sizes to run. In the rear you can run lots of sizes from 275-315. Hmm...lets see what I can dig up for pics.

First off here's mb911's '77 widebody 911 with 255/40/17 and 275/40/17 tires on 9&11x17 Alton Fuchs:

Then there's my project car - a '77 with earlier widebody bodywork.

The first pic is with 9&11x17 TruDesign/Lindsay weldup Fuchs with 255/40/17 and 275/40/17 tires.

The rest of the pics are with 9&10.5 Alton Fuchs

baq,
I have 255/45/17 on the front and it rubs to the inner wheel well on max turn. Also on the kick panel and fender lips. When I change tires, I would do 255/40/17.
On wheel's specs. Look at pictures bellow. Hope this helps.
