Converting '72 MFI to RS spec
Can somebody who has done this let me know the costs/problems involved?
Many thanks, David B |
If you have a 72 S then I'm pretty sure the space cams are the same. If it's a T or an e, then you will need to have it rebuilt to S specs. Not sure how much it costs to have this done, but based on how much I paid 14 years ago, I would say it's over a grand to have the pump done. If you do not have an S motor, then you will have to get stacks, cams, etc.. This can up up real quick.
Do a search as there are tons of posts on this. |
Sorry, I should have said it is a 72 T---my concern is opening up the throttle bodies and stacks-is it possible with plastic stacks?
|
RS and S MFI were identical in stacks, throttle bodies, and space cams...
|
But this is a 'T'--- Can the throttle bodies and trumpets be bored out?

David, Your throttle bodies can be bored out. Matt Blast @ Eurometrix (978) 448-2557
I think he might even be able to work on your plastic stacks, but you'll have to ask him about that. If not, Henry @ SuperTec (760) 728-3062 has bored out the plastic stacks before. As far as your MFI pump, you will need the RS space cam if you want it right, or a 019 pump, but that will cost way too much$$$. The RS space cam alone cost about $800 plus the installation and re-calibration could end up close to $1200. Your T pump can be re-calibrated/adjusted to get fairly close to the RS spec. for way less $$. |
Many thanks (again) Mark!

I believe that the two places listed by 356RS above-Eurometrix and Super Tec are the people to talk to.

You might ask Mark (356RS) if he can do the recalibaration/adjustment of your T pump using his newly crafted MFI tester & calibration unit. He just calibrated my 71E pump to factory specs. Based on the report that he provided, and my limited understanding, if it is within the adjustment capabilities and space cam of the T-pump, he should be able to match (or get as close as limitations allow) the RS RPM/fuel delivery curve. But...that's just my opinion...i could be wrong.
