Fuel Pump Question?
I have a '77 3.2 conversion car that I'm still sorting out. When I got it the fuel pressure accumulator was still in place from the original 2.7 CIS installation. I removed the accumulator because the 3.2's Motronic system doesn't require it and the car immediately ran better.
The PO had the fuel pump replaced at some point and I assumed it was during the conversion process. But now I have my doubts about the knowledge of the person who did the conversion and whether or not my pump is correct for the 3.2 Motronic fuel system. So here's the source of my quandry: The fuel pump I have installed now in the car is part# 911.608.102.02 which our host describes as the correct pump for 911's from 1980-83 and 930's from 1986-89 both of which are CIS models. The other two pumps Pelican lists are: 911.608.102.00 for 911's and 930's from 1977-79 944.608.102.04 for 911 Carrera's 1984-89 Who is familiar with the differences between these three pumps? My understanding is that CIS requires higher fuel pressures than Motronic. Will the pump I have work with the 3.2 if the original CIS fuel accumulator is removed and the 3.2 fuel pressure regulators are doing their job? I don't have a fuel pressure gauge set (yet) so I don't know what my current fuel pressure is. I just want to know if my current fuel pump setup is way off base or if it's ok. |

Quote:
CIS pumps tend to be higher-rated than EFI pumps, because CIS requires higher pressures. The flow rating of the pump is the flow at the quoted pressure - but the pump will happily run lower than the rated pressure, with even higher flow. So long as the pump can supply both the flow you need at the pressure you require, no problem.
