Paint colour to match red carrera scripts for fuch centres
Hi All,
Can anybody tell me what is the colour name/code to match red carrera scripts as on the 2.7rs? Thanks, Adam |
Adam,
Although I do not know the formula, name, or code of the red I can tell you how to get it much easier than trying to track it down. Go to your local automotive paint supply store. Likely a PPG store, they have a scan tool that takes a picture (for the lack of the proper term) of the part in question. It is then downloaded into a computer that spits out the formula and can me mixed. You will only need an area of about 4" sq at the very most for it to read. The down side, red is without question the most expensive paint one can purchase. I just painted a vintage race motorcycle in a shade of red. Granted it had pear in the paint but it cost 88 bucks for 1/2 pint. Reduced or thinned it will make 1 pint. Unless you are trying to restore the car to the exact color you may could go to a good auto parts store and get very close with a product called DupliColor, another product that can be had is UPOL more expensive than DupliColor its also a better product. Once painted you will want to use a 2 part polyurethane clear to protect it. Lastly, if you do not have a local paint shop many collision centers have the device I am talking about and can mix it up for you as well. |
The red carrera script is a transfer and not a paint colour. The red used on cars in 1973 was Peru-rot or Peru-red and had colour code "042". Before that it was Bahia red with code 1313

Hi Adam,
I just recently put some Carrera stripes on our 993 and then rattle-caned the wheels. I found Krylon "Banner Red" to be a VERY close match. (Might be called OSHA Red, Krylon is changing their 5 ball formulas and the co-inciding names of the color) I believe this is likely because industry uses Federal standards for color dyes. I had the same experience when we had Orange stripes on the car...Krylon OSHA Orange was an exact match. Durabilty wise the Krylon is holding up well. The car is a daily driver so it sees lots of use and frequent washing. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1255022317.jpg Good luck with your project, Cooper |
