Velour Jerry! Velour!

I need a velour expert

I have a '74 that was ordered with a lot of S options. I have the original bill of sale and sticker. The carpet is called out as velour. The sale documents only list the color of the leather interior option as "copper red". However somewhere I came to think the carpet is "lobster" - not sure how now. I am positive the carpet currently in the car is original. Carpet is in near perfect shape except for driver side front mat which is starting to show age. Over the last few years I have contacted all the usual sources (I think) that I could research on this board in attempt to source. Reputable interior suppliers have provided me with various lobster samples...none that any actually refer to as velour...and therefor none that match the carpet style (color is in the range that I could suppose if it were the velour style it would match).

Does lobster or copper red velour exist? Did it ever?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Don

Don,

Lobster velour exists but I don't think a '74 had it. The color Lobster came a little later and in 1974, I think the red carpet was simply known as "red." Velour existed in 1974, although the thickness varied over the years. It got really tall in the mid to late '70's. You might try these guys in the UK:

Southbound Trimmers UK

They have been able to supply some original materials in the past.

Yes, Copper Red leather was a special order option in 1974. The Peru Red 911 that I purchased new in 1974 had a Copper Red leather interior

The carpet was a close match, a dark red with a touch of brown. Lobster looks like it may be the closest match but I'd get a swatch to make sure. It's definitely not a bright red like Can Can.
