Mounting a 69-73 front bumper to an SC
I have searched many backdate threads looking for pictures or specs of how to mount a standard 69-73 front bumper on an SC without cutting anything on the car.
Lots of threads showing the impact bumpers off the cars, then pictures of the backdated bumpers on the cars. No pictures of how they were attached or what the "new" brackets looked like or the attachment points used. I have read somewhere, that a plate can be made to attach the bumper to the impact bumper shock mount locations. Has anyone done this? If so, any pictures of the brackets/plates along with dimensions? Does anyone know of any vendors that sells backdate bumper mounting brackets? Can the original 69-73 bumper brackets be used somehow? I would like this backdate to be bolt on only, no permanent mods. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

There are two problems. The older model bumper mounts about 3 to 4 inches lower than the impact bumper. Also the fenders are different. When backdating a section of metal is added to the lower area of the fender in front of the tire and the older style turn signal housing is mounted above the bumper.

Gordon,
Yes, I already purchased the light boxes to add to my existing fenders. I am looking for information on what is used to bolt the 73 bumper onto an SC. I know that "backdating" an SC has been done numerous times by members on this forum. Lately, there has been many "backdating" that were referred to as "bolt-on". Just wondering if anyone has taken any pictures or had the brackets fabricated that they used to accomplish this, or if any purchased them from someone. Thanks for your response.

I think that what you are trying to do is not possible without changing the hood for a long hood.

I apologize if I was not clear.
I have already purchased a long hood, light boxes, lenses, and grills to convert the front of my car. I am in the process of getting the front bumper. It will be an original 69-73 front metal bumper. I am looking for information on how people in the past mounted the bumper without changing anything permanently. I do not want to cut the tub at all.

Wow, some people don't read the original posts...
I made some brackets to attach my bumper. They bolt to the shock tube brackets. I will try and get some photos for you. I am using a fiberglass bumper however so it may be different. |

Interested as well...
I might be able to afford a backdate soon myself, at least I have an original set of fenders and front bumper. I'll probably use a TRE glass hood.

I think people use big L brackets that attach to the old shock towers.

There must be someone out there who took pictures and has measurements of the bumper brackets that they used...
Anyone?

Do you currently have an original bumper? If so, will you please photograph the mounting points at the bumper side?

Mike,
Sorry I don't have the bumper yet. It's the last major item on my purchase list. |

Are you buying a used one or new Dansk?

I was looking for a used one but everyone wants the same money as the cost of a new Dansk. So I am going with a Dansk.

I would check with TRE Motorsports. They do a lot of backdates, and make a number of backdate parts. TRE Motorsports

LWB bumpers...
I sourced an original non-S for a somewhat reasonable price, but forget about finding an early steel S bumper for reasonable coin...

Joe,
I did check TRE's website, they do not show any brackets at all. It is worth a call though. Thanks for the suggestion. G450X, How long ago did you source your non-S bumper? All the bumpers I have seen lately have rust or dents and they are selling for $700+

I picked it up about a year ago during a family trip to skip shipping. He threw in the bumper guards (which needed work) and the little rear side reflectors (both in good condition) for $400.00. It was straight, but it did have slight surface rust on the backside (easily sanded off).
I am also trying to figure a way to find reasonably priced fog lights (that look period correct) to fit the original openings while using my original SC wiring/switch (the SC originals look a bit big to fit). The original LWB (or SWB) fog lights are very expensive as well... |
