I was seated next to Lou at a PCA instructors dinner a few years back. After the usual "nice to meet you, where ya from," we got into the "so... what do you drive?" stuff. "Oh, an older 911 racer... and a Yellowbird." (Gulp! Wasn't ready for that one.)

The car was still in storage at that time, but I recall he was planning to get it out of hibernation within the next year, so of course I put in my $.02 and egged him on. (You're welcome.)

Great guy, very friendly, very interesting. It was a neat opportunity to hear about Ruf history, the making of Faszination, etc.

Glad to see he's brought it back to life.

Mark

So looking at the performance specs and the price, the CTR and the new GT2RS are about the same. these were quite the cars way back in the 80's. Has anyone reproduced that engine? (twin turbo, 3.4L, dual intercoolers, custom chip/ignition).

RUF Auto Centre - 1997 RUF CTR2 Sport - Stock# R101
Oh no! That's Steve Beddor's RUF up for sale. And yes, it is a real RUF. I used to know him a little back around y2k when I was racing with Audi in an A4 Touring car.

We met at the Virginia City Hillclimb. He was a really great guy and we must havetalked for a few hours just that couple days alone. That car is typically set up as an AWD car, but that one is able to be configured as a RWD car fairly easily, and that is how he competed at that particular hillclimb. And then a week later, it was set up as AWD, of course for the pikes peak hill climb and I'm pretty sure that he set the record for his class that year. I actually was at the 98 pikes peak hillclimb and he raced that year too. (I had seen his car at the Virginia city race that year but I was campaigning with a different Audi and it was independent.

But I'll tell ya, that was a major year for pikes peak. Hyundai premeried an all wheel drive version of the Tiburon. And the Escudo was there as well. Steve Millen was just a few hundreds of a second off of setting a new record in their Nissan truck race vehicle.

But back to the CTR2 Sport, Steve let me sit in it and it was truly amazing being behind the wheel of that thing, even if i wasnt going anywhere in it. I was promised that he'd take me up ad a passenger in the next round of runs, but unfortunately, the day was being cut short because of weather, so I wasn't able to, as he only had one more run up the hill and wanted to try to set a new record.

Him and Ari from, I think, Spector racing equipment, or something like that is the guy who has the F40 that currently has the record.

Anyway, that's it from me.

Michael

To mpetry:

Drip rails were not simply ground off as the roof sections have a folded-over overlap at that point....to get the rails off required a considerable amount of work.

BTW...what do you mean "early" door handles? These show as regular "pistol-trigger" units and not the early style push-buttons ??????

- Highest sustained speed attained with this CTR on a German Autobahn was 215 mph @ 6400 rpm.
