Targa to Coupe Roof Conversion

I currently have a very mechanically sound 84 Targa. I love the car, but am really wanting the look of a coupe. Not to mention, I would love to track the car as funds become available (after I graduate). I am wanting advice on converting my Targa top to a NSR coupe top. I have searched but didn't find any write-ups dealing with this. The closes thing I found was a couple of track cars running full fiberglass roofs, but over full cages. If possible, I would like to stay away from a cage at this point. Has anyone taken a Targa and welded a coupe roof on and left it like that? Obviously the doors will have to be changed and glass added for the new roof. I am concerned that the structure of the car will be compromised. But then again, with the top out, I don't know how much structural integrity is added by the Targa bar and rear glass alone. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Chris

its been done backwards and forwards. Its a big undertaking to do it correctly and a top class result would cost a lot. Better you find a decent coupe shell and transfer the applicable parts. If you are in no hurry a deal will come along

Chris, you might want to talk to the guys at Rennline as they've done this conversion. I've seen the car and turned out came out quite nice although it's more of a full on DE/track car.

See project details here: http://www.rennline.com/projarchivedept.asp?dept=461

I've been looking around for a decent coupe tub, but haven't seen any that really caught my attention. I do agree that swapping my drivetrain over would be a much easier solution. I guess I'll just have to keep watching out for a tub. Thanks for the replies.
