Weltmeister Chip
Hi Guys,
I have an 87 Model 911 that I brought over from the states last year. Its just been through its yearly service and is purring like a cat. The car has the standard chip installed but the previous owner gave me a weltmeister chip he got from the guy who sold him the car. The last owner never used the chip so its seen no action in the last 8 years. I know very little about it and was considering trying it out. I am wary of it maybe being damaged so I´m a bit apprehensive about using it. I was going to send a mail to Weltmeister for info but before I do what do you guys know about their chips. Sorry if it seems like a novice question. |

I wouldn't use it. Fuel and ignition maps are unknown, could have an unsafe level of total advance, and a lot of the early chip makers used a higher-than-safe redline to justify their HP claims. You'd do better selling it on eBay and applying the funds to a Steve Wong (911chips.com) or Russell Berry (maxhpkit.com) chip. And welcome! Don't worry about "novice" questions - we all started there!

Thanks for the reply Wavey. I think I´ll dispose of it as you suggested.

To be on the safe side, don't use that unknown chip. ( I would not even sell it, but that's just me)
Steve Wong made me a very satisfied customer. I don't know Russel Berry's chips, but other Pelicans that do, will chime in.

OK, there appears to be some confusion here...
The chip in your picture is the original chip - that's the same silver label and font Porsche used on the OEM chips. But you have a set of Weltmeister directions and an empty chip box, so apparently the Welteister chip is installed in your car. I'll bet if you pull your DME out and open it (easy job - 15 minutes), that's what you'll find. I'd still pull it and replace it with a Wong or Russell, and dispose of the Weltmeister however you see fit.

Send Steve Wong an email about his chip. Most likely he has looked at and has pulled a copy of the maps from the Weltmeister chip. He can tell you more about it and the difference that his chip would make. I have been a customer of Steve's since I bought the car 6 years ago. I just got the latest custom chip (Rev2) from Steve and is just fantastic.
![]() ![]() Just make sure you use high octane gas with both chips, otherwise the dreaded detonation can occur

Don´t worry. The car is in Germany now where the lowest octane is 95
. Last year I drove from Santa Fe to Chicago and the highest I was lucky to find was 93 in Ohio. Thanks for all the tips and the useful advice guys. I have to admit I love my 911 and you guys make me love it even more. |
