SC DOOR ADJUSTMENT Hinge Pin tool?
My passenger side door on a 1980sc is out of adjustment, looks like the top hinge pin has un seated itself about 3/16" any tips on how to press that pin back up into the hinge. I have tried various methods with out much success, hard to yield much in the narrow tight space. Your thoughts are welocme.

Do you have a picture?
The hinge pins aren't supposed to be pressed all the way in. There is a special Porsche tool used to extract and punch them back in, and if the pins were pressed all the way in, there'd be no way to get the tool on them to pull them out. They are a pretty hard press/crush fit. But you can get them back in without the special tool. I just did one (upper one on driver's side, which was starting to come out), I used a socket on the end of an 12 inch extension (I think around a 13 or 14mm socket), and a fairly heavy sledge hammer. I originally tried with a punch and a regular hammer, no way was that going to work. I also used some heavy tape to protect areas that might get scratched in the event of a slip up. But everything went well. Took a few blows, but he pin eventually went in. Finally, I doubt your door alignment issue is caused by the slightly receding pin. |

Hinge pin is meant not to be fully seated. pin really doesn't typically affect door adj. Usually it is the striker plate on the jam. It can move slightly up/down in/out. Also, both the striker plate and the hinges are shim-to-fit.

You need a mallet with major deadweight to move that pin--a really heavy iron mallet is way more effective than a lighter hammer swung hard--and I use lots and lots of rags everywhere, including around the punch I'm using, to cushion the near-inevitable mis-hits. And 3/16" of pin showing is not mis-seated, it's perfect. Leave it alone.

Absoultely post pics of the misalignment. The hinge pin is rarely, if ever, the problem. Misalignment can be corrrected in several ways, depending on where it is. Post pics and I guarantee someone will respond on how to adjust your door.

If your door wasn't hit/damaged, I'd guess the plate (other end jamb) needs to be adjusted. I got a set of "star" bits, did that and now I have more tools than before, a good thing!?!
