Different Temperature range thermostats?

I have Two engine mounted thermostats. They have different part numbers on them.
Do the part numbers indicate different temperature opening range?

They are both BEHR
X1 224 83 000
x1 248 83 000A

I'm going to test them both out in heated cooking oil when I get home, but would like to know if there is a prefered one to use. and what the difference is.

3.2L Street power hopeful at 10% more than stock. Front Carerra mounted oil cooler.

Thanks,
Richard

I did a comparison test of opening temperatures on both of these thermostats.
The one originally out of my 87 3.2 (marked 248) began opening somewhere close to the 180 deg F mark.

Where as the other one marked 224 opened significantly cooler that 180 deg. I would speculate the 224 one began opening at 150 deg F, and was wide open at 160 deg F.

Side by side in a pot of water as it warmed the 224 one began opening long before the 248 one, and the 224 one was full open just a few degrees after the 248 showed a sliver of opening.

Similar results on closing. The 248 went shut just after the 224 had just started moving closed.

So Is it a good or bad idea to use the cooler range 224 thermostat in my 3.2L?
thanks,
Richard
