Thermal Fuse Options? Clock Repair
I've searched the old posts but I'm hoping for an update.
The VDO clock repair calls for solder for a thermo fuse. Spec. is 120C or 248F. Does anyone have a good option for making this repair? Is the solder available? |

I've read a few posts and threads about using low temp solder as a substitute. I've also read about guys that just use regular solder for the connection and effectively make it permanent and then add a very low current inline fuse in the wiring behind.
I'm partial to the inline fuse addition. Low temp solder is bound to break fairly easily and you'll be back with a non-working clock. Probably a good idea to get the movement cleaned and re-oiled as well.

Try Mouser Electronics. They have a number of options for you to use. Search for "thermal fuse"

Thanks guys
How about a recommendation for a "very low current inline fuse"? Apparently the "thermal" vs. "current" protection isn't an issue. Would a spray electro/mechanical contact cleaner/lubricant be advisable? You know, the stuff you use to clean the tuner or volume pot on your old radio... Thanks for the Mouser Electronics site. Being the knucklehead I am, I guess I need a few less options. Can you narrow it down to "this is the one you want"? |

If you search in this forum you'll find lots of threads on this. A search for "clock fuse" just now returns lots of useful info. I think there are some people who fixed this with a diode. Some has used other things.

I was thinking of taking my clock apart again and cleaning it with carb cleaner and WD40. but contact cleaner sounds like a better idea maybe. the little solder attachment on the back didn't seem like a big deal,, just re solder it back on.
but then, my clock doesn't work, so my opinion doesn't count... ![]()
