Call It The "Silver Blue-It"

Well, here she is! I left for Denver Friday at 4:00. 1,400 miles, round-trip, and 30 hours later, she is home. I traded my '88 Guards Red Cab for an '88 Diamond Blue Cab. I didn't have any issues, other than what I think might be a bad ignition switch. The cruise doesn't work, nor do the power seat switches, but I'm in love! On the good side, the power top DOES work, and the paint job is gorgeous. So far, I've found all of two blemishes!

Now, I just need to do some adjusting to the pedals, fix the cruise and seats, trade/re-finish the wheels (I want polished petals), re-cover the dash, blah, blah, blah. And so it goes.......

Bluetiful! Personnally, I'd look for the original steering wheel whilst at it. Love the colour combo. Ahh, if that's a car cover in the bag/in trunk, it'll come in useful to keep her mint, eh!

Yeah, I'm not sure how I feel about the steering wheel at the moment. I do know, however, that stock is WAY too big for me. I'm 6'4" and I need the extra knee room. As for the bag, that contains the air compressor, some extra canvas fabric, and some clear plastic pieces. I assume it's to repair the top, if needed.

Sweeet!!! Welcome to the Diamond Blue club. Car looks great. Mine had after market cruise which was removed while doing work on the engine. I have a smaller steering wheel and really like it. Also have the original but needs restiching. Keep us updated on your progress.

Thanks, Michael. The pictures of your car and JeremyD's are what helped push me to go ahead with the trade. Funny enough, I'm having a hell of a time convincing people that it's blue. Of course, it doesn't help that they know I'm colorblind!

As for updates, most of the seat switches were due a bad fuse, but one motor is still not working. I think the cruise is either a bad brain or a bad servo. The switch/fuse/relay all seem to check out fine. I need more quality time with the multimeter.

Alan nice looking P. car, and nice color. I have a question, where do you go to get a 911 serviced in/around Pittsburg, Kansas? I don't recall every seeing a Porsche dealership anywhere along Broadway. Congradulations, Geologyjohn

John,
There isn't really any place around here. Honestly, I do most of the work myself. When I do go to a shop, I usually go to Bob Hindson Racing in Kansas City. I have heard that Sharp's Imports in Joplin, MO is decent. I have not checked them out, though. BHR has a pretty stellar reputation.

How do you know Pitt?

you found someone who wanted to swap colors, and you traded cars?!? Never heard of that happening before!

That's a great color. I had that exact color many years ago on an '88, I miss it.

If the paint isn't chipped and/or pitted on the wheels, powerwash them then rub them down with vaseline or generic petroleum jelly then wipe it off.

You won't believe how good they look.

That's right out of the 911 Owner's Manual.

Yeah, it was pretty much a straight trade. He gave me some cash because I gave up a dash with no cracks and 9" rears. But I was amazed that I found somebody to trade with me! As for the wheels, thanks for the tip. I have used the Vaseline trick several times before, but I want to have polished rims/petals. The all-blacks look awesome on some colors, but not on this one.

Excellent - although you need to change your signature. You'll get lots of compliments on the color - trust me. No put those 7's up front and get you a set of 8's and polish the petals - it really makes the car...

Welcome to the diamond blue club. I have the same car minus the tail. the seats must have been re-upholstered they are missing the signature.

It is my understanding that while all commemorative-edition '88 cars were diamond blue & had the seat signature, far from all '88 diamond blue cars were the commemorative edition.

GREAT looking car.

By far my favorite color (and my current 911 is black/black).

IMHO: 2 suggestions - replace the steering wheel with a classic-type 3-spoke, and either polish the wheels or paint them to match the car. Oh, and think about a radio with a faceplate that better matches the car (aside from the period oem radios, I like the CDR220 myself).

Btw, I thought I had to get a smaller steering wheel, but the version of the stock wheel that has the integral hub extension is working very well for me. I'm 6' 1" and, um, certainly not thin...

1. That's right. My '88 is NOT a commemorative edition.

2. I don't know if it wasn't clear or what, but polished petals are definitely in my future. I'd like to get some 8's or 9's, but my funds need to be used elsewhere for now.

3. I have tried to use the stock steering wheel in my last one, and it just didn't work for me. it all depends on how your height is distributed. I have a long torso and short arms, which makes for an odd combination.

4. Thanks for the radio suggestion. I'm actually looking for some sort of replacement. This one won't play my MP3 cd's.
