it started with an airbox...
 

My current trip into the garage started due to a broken airbox. Got a new one, and just about every rubber piece associated with the intake, and a slew of other parts as well. The first 4 hours today included a valve adjustment complete with all new gaskets, nuts, washers and a very thorough cleaning of all covers, new plugs, drained the oil and removal of the non-functioning a/c system. Tomorrow the engine gets a partial drop and I can actually start on the airbox. After that there are the new turbo tie rods, alignment, gear oil change, brake fluid change, new front brakes and a few other little bits and pieces.

Thankfully after joining the PCA and meeting the pres/vp of my local chapter I was directed to a super mechanic who is also a pretty damn nice guy. Since I am new to the 911 world I wanted to find a mechanic who would also be an instructor along the way and luckily I found a great one. $50 an hour for labor and teaching is a deal in my eyes as the knowledge I am receiving is priceless.

Moral of the story? "while you are in there" can really add up before you know it but joining the PCA and meeting the locals can really be beneficial.

The benefits of a good PCA region is immeasurable. Our region recently did a "tech session" on a members 944. The transmission swap was done in no time. Our region has several fun events each month.

just as i have read many times on here, things changed. ended up dropping the entire thing and replacing way more parts than originally intended. hoses, vacuum lines, air flow sensor boot, just about everything rubber to do with CIS, thermostat and new o-ring (original literally crumbled) and a few hundred dollars of various other items.

snapped a few pics at one point when i actually remembered to do so a few hours before we were done. still had some detailing to do on the engine and trans just to make it look shiny. spent way too much time today over the parts washer and my back is killing me.

i did notice that all of the factory heat/sound dampening product had long ago disintegrated. looks like i will be putting a layer or two of damp pro on the rear deck and seat sheetmetal. you can see what is left of it in the last pic.
