What muffler is this?
I've got a stainless, fancy looking muffler that came on the 84 carrera. 2.5" single in, twin 3" outs. Looks nice, could use a polish. Sounds really nice at times, but is loud as h*ll at 2500 rpm, ie highway cruising speed. Can't have a conversation on a trip somewhere.
Would this be a type I can cap off one end to quiet it down for trips? Or do I need to find something with smaller outputs so the wife and I can drive it somewhere on the weekends? I'm pondering installing a flowmaster/dynomax 1 in 2 out to see if its quieter. ![]() ![]() ![]()

That looks like something custom made or after market. (It looks like a quality item)
You could block the passenger side outlet with a rag while the engine is running as see what happens. But... It may not solve your problem with noise as capping one outlet could cause resonance at certain RPMs. I would give it a go and see what happens. What have you got to loose? I'm sure the "Flowmaster Dynomax 1 in 2 out" is a good muffler but there is another option. Go with a Monty... Monty Mufflers - porsche mufflers stainless steel australia USA - hand, fabricated, heavy, gauge, 304, flanges (no affiliation) They are a great muffler and it's been around for a while. They do have a sporty tone so it may not be what you're looking for. You can order it with either twin outlets or a single... (either 75mm or 100mm) If it was me I would go with a 75mm single outlet. (but I'm 44 and not into the look at me BS) Have you considered an OEM muffler?

Its a nice looking muffler, but i have no idea what ti is. That said, I have a Flowmaster 1 in 2 out on my SC, and it is anything but quiet. If you want quiet I would suggest OEM.

Hi,
one way to reduce (substantially) mid range resonance is to wrap the system muffler. The resonance is more of a vibration within the muffler than a direct outward noise from the tailpipes. I have wrapped several mufflers with 2''x1/8'' muffler wrap and all but eliminated through car resonance - thats if thats what you have, deep drone through the tub instead of the noise from the tailpipes. ![]() I wrap them THEN put them on as the wrap also gives some 'sound insulation' between the muffler and the engine cradle where it mounts. Check also your rear engine mounts, if they have worn to 'steel to steel' thats going to make it even worse. Hope this helps Regards Jammo. ![]() |

I'll check out the wrap option. It is the 2500 to 3000 drone that bothers me the most, otherwise the sound is not that bad, rumbles pretty nice.
