Wet Vs. Dry???

Hi Everyone -

I am horrible at diagnosing problems. I know there's a problem, but where do I start? For instance, would anyone be able to give me an explanation resulting in diagnosis as to why the left side heat exchanger looks very wet:

and the right side looks dry as a bone:

Is it rings? Is it valves? is it just that the left carb is running too rich and the right too lean? Please help.

Thanks

Hi Everyone -

I think it's gas not oil, and this is a brand new engine with about 8 miles on it. I pulled the engine, sent it out, put it back in and got horrible results.

It's a 2.4 T engine originally, that I put S cams in anf S pistons from teh 2.2 to get a higher compression ratio. Then i switched from MFI to 40IDA Webers. I could not tune the ignition to save my life, and the carbs were just as bad. I thought I had the wrong components in the carbs so I pulled them off, and just for fun put a caliper on the intake ports of the cylinder heads. I found out that none of the machining on my heads was done. Who knows if anything was done to them. All in all this has turned out to be a complete nightmare, and I've since pulled the engine again and will start tearing it down myself this weekend. And no I did not use MM.

You may want to have the problems documented by a reputable shop, as that would give you ammunition to get your money back on the first rebuild.

If you can go that way, given the silence on your part regarding the work done, who did it (glad to hear it isn't MM), and how much it cost you.
