iridium spark plugs
I have a 73S with MFI and MSD. AFR at 13.1 and for years ran with NGK fine electrode iridium #7 plugs. This is one heat range higher than called for, however, for around town the plugs, especially the tips stayed clean. I recently changed to the cheaper NGK copper electrode in the same heat range and immediately noticed that the car did not fire up as well and the firing tip along with the porcelain little sooty. After about 300 miles I removed one regular copper and installed a cleaned up used fine tip and sure enough that plug's tip is cleaner. I then did the same on the opposite bank and had the same result! Anyone else tried this?

Not tried it, but the iridium plugs are much better, ahead of platinum even. According to NGK Quality Manager (I know him) the Iridium plugs fire with a hotter spark and better energy.

Iridiums were the only plugs that my old 912 w/10:1 CR would run on. Good plugs, should last for a long time too so I believe they're a cost effective solution.
Just my .02 worth.
