Post Michelin Pilot Sport

I know this is another tire thread - which has been beaten to death.
I am on the verge of replacing my tires (all four)Originally, I had Yokohama AVS Sport. I was intending to go to a Bridgestone RE-730 or S-02/3. However a colleague PCA suggested Michelin Pilot Sport.
Any feedback from street of DEW would be appreciated.

Thumbs up

I just purchased a set of 16" Yokohama AVS Intermediate tires for my '82 911. These are great tires. I had them on another car I tracked quite a bit. They have a tread wear rating of 160 which means they can be run on the road but are still pretty stickly. Not as sticky as a Victoracer or BFG R1, but it's not a "race" tire either.

I have never used a "Pilot," but I do know they are quite expensive. Through the Tire Rack, I got a price of $75/tire for 225/50/16s - great bang for the buck. The other thing, I just spoke with a guy from Discount Tire and Yokohama has discontinued making the AVS Intermediate. I bought an extra set and they are sitting under a towel in my garage. I love these tires.

Hope this helps.
Jim

Hi,

I have Pilot Sports on my SLK. The good news is that they are some of the stickiest tires anywhere in the dry, but they're pretty horrible in the wet. I've autocrossed the car in both dry and wet conditions. I read through the feedback on TireRack about the Pilots and most people say the same thing.

On the other hand, I have RE730s on my 911E. I've only run them in the dry so far, but they're such a great bargain for the price. Plus, with a treadwear rating of 300, you won't burn through them in 6 months.

My $.02...

I like my Pilot XGTs. The rears are getting thin, so the wet performance is poor now, but with deeper tread, wet performance was good, I thought. They surely are a stable, sticky and quiet tire. I think they look nice, too.
