identifying shocks

I just started working on a project car. It's a 1974 911. The shocks are badly rusted and I am unable to identify the replacements I need by color or part number. Are there any other ways I can identify as Koni, Bilstein or Boge?

Any paint left on 'em?

Pictures would go a long way to solving this.

No paint is left on them. I will get some pictures and post them. Thanks in advance for all the help

When you say no paint is left on them do you mean they are bare metal? Rust? If they are all black then they are Boge.

by shocks do you mean the shock absorbers inside the front strut housings?

or the rear ones?

if the latter, just put on Bilsteins.

if the former, then what you really want to do is to ID the strut HOUSING itself, not the insert

Front and rear shock absorbers are completely rusted (it's a project car)
