Wow....this could have been bad!!
So, rebuilt my engine, carbs, and trans. Putting it all back together carefully...
Jump to this afternoon. I was plugging in the final hoses, adjusting the points, and bolting down the battery. Tried to turn over the engine, and it wouldn't start. Just cranked and cranked. Decided to call it a day, but wondered if fuel was at least getting in to the carbs. I take off the air cleaner, peek my head over the carbs, and start moving the linkage... and what do I see??? The dang "hope nothing falls in to the engine" rags all the way down in the intake manifold, past the butterflies, on the right side of the engine. Alllll the way down...! Unbolted everything, pulled the rags out, and put it all back together. And then closed the garage door and really called it a day.... Wow. |
Thats one for the books glad you dodged the bullit

Didn't you read that post a month ago about a shop doing an oil fed tensioner update only to find "cellulose" material in the engine right after wards? This is the same mishap, except that you did not run it yet.
